Find it irresistible or hate it, Apple’s voice dictation instrument, Siri, is relatively well-liked. For those who reside in a bustling metropolis, it’s no longer wonderful to peer anyone in a rush yelling into their iPhone so as to ship texts and emails, or replace calendars. Microsoft, often late to the birthday celebration at the present time, is alleged to be working by itself model of Siri referred to as Cortana — named after the persona from the Halo sequence — that it’ll convey to all brand new Home windows gadgets: Home windows Telephone, Floor, Xbox One, and Home windows eight.1.

As ZDNet factors out, leaked pictures of a Lumia cellphone made the rounds on the web a couple of months in the past. The telephone reportedly got here with an early construct of a Home windows Telephone OS, which contained an app listed as “zCortana.” Cortana is most popularly often called a feminine synthetic intelligence within the Halo sequence. Now, reviews are suggesting that the zCortana app used to be a take a look at construct for a Siri-like private assistant. Taking into consideration Halo’s Cortana is a man-made intelligence that learns and adapts — a high quality that’s most likely the principle merchandising focal point of Apple’s Siri — naming a Siri-like assistant Cortana makes excellent feel.

The tool is in keeping with the information database that powers Bing, referred to as Satori. ZDNet reports that, unlike Siri, Cortana will become more central to the Windows operating system experience. It will roll out not just on Windows Phone, but across major Microsoft platforms, such as desktop Windows and the Xbox One. Microsoft aims to make Cortana an overarching shell of the Microsoft experience, and not just a voice assistant. It will work with all of Microsoft’s “essential services,” and thanks to its ability to learn and adapt, will even be able to predict what you need before you inquire about it. Cortana will also use social graph information in order to help connect pieces of information together that normally wouldn’t be linked. It sounds similar to the way Facebook Graph Search can link your buddy with types of drinks because he mentions those drinks sometimes.

Microsoft likely won’t introduce Cortana until the company feels it can provide something entirely unique that would be a leg-up on the competition. However, Microsoft did release the underwhelming Surface RT, and while Windows Phone is actually nice to use (not counting the maps app), it certainly doesn’t offer anything iOS or Android doesn’t. So, perhaps Microsoft’s version of providing something unique isn’t too difficult to do in the company’s eyes.

Along with the reports of Cortana, information regarding certain features of the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 have begun to leak. Foremost, the mobile OS will implement a notifications center on the Start screen, which makes for a more inclusive mobile experience. On iOS, for instance, you have to swipe down the notifications center in order to see what’s going on across your device. In Windows Phone 8.1, leaked images show that the notification center will be included on the Start screen in a Live Tile, so you’ll know you have notifications without having to swipe down and check. Furthermore, a little star will be included on the device’s status bar just in case you’re not down with the Tile. The Windows Phone 8.1 update isn’t expected to arrive until early next year, so unfortunately you’ll have to wait for more cohesive notifications a little while longer.

With the inclusion of the Live Tile notifications and Cortana somewhere down the line, Microsoft devices seem like they’ll be a breeze to use. Now, if only Microsoft could convince developers to make some apps for those devices.
